What Is Empowered Motherhood — And Is It Right for You?

Kristina Anzell, LCSW, PMH-C 8 min read

You have tried doing it alone long enough

You've read the books. You've listened to the podcasts. You've tried to "just get it together" more times than you can count.

You are intelligent, capable, and have accomplished hard things before. Which is why this particular hard thing — figuring out how to thrive in motherhood — feels so confusing. Why isn't it working? What are you missing?

Most likely, you're not missing effort. You're missing structure.

What Empowered Motherhood is

Empowered Motherhood is a 13-week, therapist-led group program for postpartum women who are highly capable but exhausted since becoming a mother — and who are ready for measurable change, not more advice.

It is not therapy. It is not a support group. It is a structured program with a curriculum, real deliverables, and a framework built on the biopsychosocial-spiritual model of health — meaning we address all four pillars at once, because that's what matrescence requires.

The four pillars

Biological (Weeks 1–4: Stabilize) Sleep, food, water, movement — regulated and sustainable. We start here because no cognitive or relational work lands when your nervous system is dysregulated and your body is running on empty.

Psychological (Weeks 5–7: Reclaim) Self-trust, identity, thought patterns, emotion regulation. This is where we address the internal landscape — the self-criticism, the identity loss, the thoughts that keep you stuck.

Social (Weeks 8–10: Reconnect) Boundaries, partnership, friendships, community. You cannot sustain change in isolation. This pillar focuses on rebuilding the relational systems that support you.

Spiritual (Weeks 11–13: Anchor) Values, purpose, long-term integration. What are you actually building? Who do you want to be? How do you sustain this beyond week 13?

What the weekly structure looks like

Each week, you'll:

  • Watch a 10-minute psychoeducation video before we meet (research-informed, focused on one concept)
  • Attend a live 60-minute group session (application, problem-solving, real-life integration — not lecture)
  • Complete a weekly worksheet and habit tracker (structured deliverables, not busywork)
  • Access the private community with daily therapist presence between sessions

Total weekly time investment: approximately 90 minutes.

Who this is for

Empowered Motherhood is designed for women who:

  • Are postpartum (typically 3 months to 3 years after birth)
  • Are not currently in acute crisis requiring intensive support
  • Are ready to do work, not just be witnessed
  • Want a structured framework, not open-ended processing
  • Are committed to showing up consistently for 13 weeks

It works best alongside individual therapy or as a step-down from it. If you are in crisis, please reach out for individual support first.

Who this is not for

Empowered Motherhood is not the right fit if:

  • You are experiencing active suicidal ideation or self-harm
  • You are in a situation of domestic violence or acute safety concern
  • You need a clinical diagnosis or medication management
  • You want open-ended peer support rather than structured curriculum

The three enrollment options

Self-Guided — Foundations ($297): All 13 videos, worksheets, and habit trackers. Available anytime, at your own pace. No live component.

Live Cohort ($897): Everything in Foundations, plus 13 live group sessions, the private community, and a 30-minute 1:1 clarity call. Limited to 8 women per cohort.

Cohort + Retreats ($1,097): Full cohort experience plus a kickoff half-day retreat, a closing family retreat, and a printed workbook.

What women say after completing the program

They feel like themselves again. Not the self they were before — something better. A self that has integrated the before and after, that knows her values and is acting from them, that has real tools for the hard days.

They sleep better. They fight less. They have more patience — not because they've become more stoic, but because they've addressed the underlying depletions that were eroding it.

Is this right for you?

There's a 2-minute quiz on the Empowered Motherhood page that can help you figure out which path fits your life right now. Or you can apply directly — I review every application personally and reach out within 48 hours.

If you've read this far, I suspect part of you already knows.
