Postpartum Rage Therapy

You snapped today. And then spent the rest of the day hating yourself for it.

This is the part nobody puts in the parenting books.

It usually starts small. A noise that is slightly too loud. A mess at the exact wrong moment. Your partner asking a question you have answered seventeen times. And then something in you cracks open and the anger that comes out feels completely disproportionate and completely out of your control. You are shocked by it. You apologize. You promise yourself it will not happen again. It happens again.

You are not a monster. Your nervous system is overwhelmed.

Postpartum rage is a clinical reality that is dramatically underreported because women are ashamed to name it. But rage is one of the most common presentations of postpartum mood disturbance, especially in high-functioning women who have a high threshold for distress. By the time the anger surfaces, your system has been running on empty for weeks or months. The rage is not the problem. It is the warning light.

The shame spiral makes it worse.

The guilt after a rage episode is its own form of suffering. You replay it, catastrophize about what it means for your baby, question who you are as a mother. That guilt and shame place additional stress on an already depleted system, which makes the next explosion more likely, not less. The cycle feeds itself. Breaking it requires understanding what is underneath the anger, not just managing the surface behavior.

What we actually work on.

We start by understanding your specific triggers. Not just the obvious ones, but the deeper ones underneath. Often there is a feeling of being unseen, of carrying too much alone, of having needs that are chronically unmet. The rage is a signal that something real needs attention. Once we understand what that is, we work on regulating your nervous system so that you have more space between the trigger and the response: enough space to choose.

The practical skills that make the difference.

You will learn to recognize the physical warning signs that show up in your body before you reach the breaking point: the tightness in your chest, the clench in your jaw, the particular quality of tension that means you are about to overflow. We build a specific plan for what to do in those moments. Not just breathe through it, but concrete steps that actually interrupt the escalation cycle. You will practice them. They will become automatic.

Imagine a new you.

You are in a hard moment with your toddler, the kind that used to send you over the edge, and something is different. You feel the familiar heat, and then you feel yourself choose. You step back. You speak calmly. You handle it. Afterward you feel not just relief, but pride. That is the version of yourself you always knew was in there. That is who we are building toward.

If you are carrying the weight of this alone, the anger, the guilt, the fear of what it means, I want you to know that this is one of the most treatable and transformable presentations I work with. Book a free 20-minute consultation. You deserve support, not shame.
